CALLING.
Definition: the loud cries or shouts of an animal or person; a strong urge toward a particular way of life or career
“To call means to name, and to name means to call into being or to make.”
Ok, so check it.
I don’t believe in coincidences. So when I looked up the definition of “calling,” and the first thing to appear on my screen included animals, that’s no accident.
I see you, Jesus. I see you. 😉
This particular post has been a couple of days in the making. But as I type, I realize it’s really more of a couple of weeks.
My last post was December 14th. Almost two months ago. This was not the plan when I committed to using my voice CONSISTENTLY.
And it’s not like I don’t have stuff to say (those who know me are nodding furiously to their internal monologue of “no kidding”). But, sometimes, the other half of the #adhdismysuperpower coin rears its ugly head.
And by sometimes, I mean all the time.
Ironic side note: this is me LIVING the reason for building what I am building – to harness all that power and magic that comes with my superpower while simultaneously SUCCESSFULLY managing the other side of the coin. #maximizethepower #minimizethekryptonite
But I’m getting ahead of myself…
Rewind. One day, I’m scrolling on Instagram (something I do rarely, and never for more than a few minutes), and I see a post from @ceoforwomen. You can check out the post HERE, but what CALLED to me was this:
“You never know who has access to a room that you need to be in. You never know who has an opportunity and needs someone with *your* gifts to fulfill it. But here’s the thing…THEY may not know it’s you, unless YOU speak up and SAY IT. ‘God is calling me to write a book.’ ‘God is calling me to host a conference.’ ‘God is calling me to launch a new business.’ Speak up. You’d be surprised how many people God will send to you to help you on your journey. All I’m saying is, you don’t have to always move in silence…*especially* if God is calling you to be loud and bold. Be open to sharing the things that God has placed in your heart and let Him handle everything else.”
Ummmm, ok God. You ain’t gotta call me out like that. Except You do and we both know that, but that’s neither here nor there.
Another ironic sidenote: as I was typing @ceoforwomen’s words, I internalized something I didn’t the first time around. Those examples she gave about “God’s CALLING me to…” ??? Yeah, He’s calling me to do all those. Noted, God. Noted.
Reading that post was a straight-up call out and call up. I could hear, and somewhat feel, God tapping on the proverbial glass and going “Hello?? Earth to Stephanie. This is your captain speaking.”
And, just like that, it was so stinking simple. Instead of getting lost in the endless options of what I COULD post about (that’s the kryptonite, hello #executivedysfunction), why not talk about this CALLING?
If you’ve known or followed me for any length of time, you may or may not have noticed that my bios and bylines have changed. It’s not about branding or business strategy anymore. And it’s not that I don’t do those things or don’t want to, but that’s not what I’m being CALLED to do right now.
God is using EVERYTHING – my 13 years in public education, the million pivots I’ve had as a business owner and solopreneur, my diagnosis of ADHD that didn’t come until my late 30’s, and (most importantly) the supernatural gifts He’s given me as a teacher, speaker, and animal advocate/obsessor – to CALL me up to this new-but-not-so-new focus as a neuroleadership + neurodiversity expert and ADHD strategist (He uses it all for our good #amirite).
I use brain science, my expertise, and straight-no-chaser strategy to build up students, business owners, and leaders who are ready to fiercely create and savagely defend spaces that embrace radical authenticity and celebrate all. Ya know, so we can change the world and sh*t. #regulatorsmountup
Just an ADHD girl, standing in front of the world, using brain science to harness the power of neurodiversity, neuroleadership, and BE – belonging and equity (because DEI doesn’t work).
I’m here to disrupt the narratives through innovative neuroleadership coaching, education, and the potential magic of animal-assisted therapy. And I’m doing this with middle/high school students and their parents, college students, business owners and leaders, and whole organizations.
I’ve got SOOOOO much more to say and talk about but, for this specific post, it’s about the CALLING.
When I was looking up definitions, I also found a blog post from Campus Crusade for Christ, which is where I got the quote at the beginning of this post. You can read the whole post HERE, but it talks about “four essential strands in the biblical notion of calling…”
Oh, there’s one more thing you need to know. God is also CALLING me to embrace my passion for animals in the form of continued research and exploration into how animal-assisted therapy can create pure magic for neurodiverse and ADHD individuals and, by extension, everyone.
So, what do I want you to “do” with all of this information?
You got questions? Ask. I would legit love nothing more than to answer as many as I can. And, hopefully, there will be some I CAN’T answer, and I welcome the excuse to explore any and all new black holes in my quest to FIND the answer.
Do you know someone I HAVE to meet? Let’s do it. I don’t care if it’s someone who needs my help, I need their help, one of us can open doors for the other, or they’re just a super dope soul. I’m down, so let’s make it happen.
Want to chat about how I might be able to serve you, someone you know, and/or your organization/business? Heck. Yes. Don’t wait, let’s get something on the calendar YESTERDAY and do the damn thing.
This thing I’m doing now may be MY calling, but it’s not something I’m meant to do on my own. And I’m not even tryin’ to take all that on by myself when I know God’s got something else in mind.
What’s calling YOU and who can I be on the lookout to introduce you to?
